Abandoned cars have become a regular sight in Doha and suburbs. Such vehicles can be found on open grounds and even beside busy roads.
The Salwa Road development project has curtailed the parking space in the area, but the limited space available is being taken up a number of abandoned cars.
“If going to shops on either side of Salwa Road is a headache these days on account of obstructions caused by the road works, the situation is made worse by those who discard their cars in this area,” a resident said.
Five abandoned cars were found in a parking lot near the old Qatar Decoration roundabout.
The road permits of four of them expired during 2011.
The remaining vehicle, a 4x4, has notched up fines totalling QR1,300 during 2010 and 2011 though its road permit expired in May 2009.
“If such a vehicle causes any accident, the other party will not get the insurance benefit and end up meeting the repair bill from his or her vehicle insurance or pocket,” the resident pointed out.
