New Academic Bridge Programme students at an orientation course
The Academic Bridge Programme (ABP), a centre of Qatar Foundation, admitted 40 new students to its spring semester this year.
New students were required to attend a three-hour orientation programme in the ABP’s LAS building in Education City to learn about ABP policies and procedures and meet ABP administrators and faculty members before they started classes on January 10.
Miles Lovelace, ABP director, welcomed students and briefed them about the programme, emphasising the importance of hard work and highlighting the many opportunities available to students studying in Education City. Then Moza al-Boainain, assistant director of student services, introduced the student services staff; assistant director of academic affairs, Mark Newmark, explained academic policies; ABP counsellor Ellenore Hibon explained the admission process; admissions and records coordinator Said Hijab talked about the grading system. Brief presentations were also made by ABP librarian S C Kumaresan; Learning resource centRE co-ordinator Mark Dowd; and IT co-ordinator, Mohammed Ragab.
ABP’s Student Association president Ibrahim al-Rajhi also spoke to the new students urging them to work hard during this semester so they may be admitted to the university of their choice. The students were then given a tour of the building and finally they met with their academic advisers to finalise their schedules.
As a centre of Qatar Foundation, the Academic Bridge Programme enrolls new student twice yearly. The majority of ABP students enroll during the fall semester, starting classes in August. Around 30-40 more students are accepted in semester two (spring
semester).
Students enrolling for the spring semester start classes in January, studying for only one academic term in contrast to the two terms the rest of the students take.
With only two months to go before Education City university deadlines students are encouraged to focus on their studies and aim for high grades as well as commit diligently to their schedules.
