QU officials announcing the Ofid days event
Qatar University (QU) has announced its third Office for Faculty and Instructional Development (Ofid) days from February 13 to 15.
The annual forum is for faculty engagement and discussion on experiences, challenges and successes in the teaching/learning processes at the university.
Faculty will share their experiences and success stories under the theme “Active Learning, Implementation and Assessment”.
The event is organised in collaboration with the Office of Academic Programmes and Learning Outcomes Assessment (APLOA), the Core Curriculum Programme (CCP) and the Office of Graduate Studies in the Office of the vice-president and chief academic officer, Dr Sheikha bint Jabor al-Thani.
“This forum demonstrates our push towards creative approaches to teaching which will lead to effective learning, especially given that assessment is geared towards improving student’ participation and development,” Ofid director Dr Dalal Moukarzel said.
The forum encourages student participation alongside their professors in various sessions. Faculty from several universities in Education City will also participate as part of expanding the dialogue on the experiences of active and effective teaching and learning approaches in Qatar.
The opening day’s programme will comprise panel discussions in which associate deans, heads and co-ordinators of various departments from the seven colleges and the Foundation Programme at QU will present their respective strategies and outcomes.
On the second day, faculty will share their experiences in a series of workshops, seminars and round-table discussions.
An important aspect is the presentation of initiatives promoting student involvement in and outside the classroom, which is a key area of importance in the organisation’s strategic plan.
In one of the sessions, Honours Programme students will present a documentary that was produced on the project they conducted at the Orientalist Museum in Qatar. The producer Amanda Pope will participate.
The final day’s programme will include a full day of follow-up sessions to evaluate the status of the assessment process as advocated during the organisation’s Assessment Week held in September last year.
