Third Grade Leaders in the principal’s office at Qatar Academy
Qatar Academy Assistant Principal Derek Nelson recently addressed the Grade Three Leadership Team as part a new programme that is set to change the role student leaders play in the school.
The group will continue to meet throughout the school year to learn about leadership and practice leadership initiatives with teacher Gareth King. “I asked each Grade three teacher to give me the names of two student leaders in their classes,” explained King. “From there, I met with the students as a group and brainstormed some leadership projects for the next two terms.”
“Three students will work on playground initiatives, three students will work with the school’s IT staff to develop a video about leadership, and a final group of four students will assist with Grade three assemblies.
“Students will also have an opportunity to attend a Grade three planning meeting about the next Unit of Inquiry and may have visits with special guests like Gregory Hedger, Qatar Academy’s Director.
“The team is a work in progress,” said King. “We don’t even have an official name yet, but we’ve got some great projects ahead of us and this really is a very bright group of students. I have high expectations for them in the coming months.”
