Qatar Charity volunteers participating in the ‘Sham and Yemen Relief’ campaign
Qatar Charity has recently organised a number of lectures and presentations at independent schools throughout the country to highlight the suffering of people caught up in the violence in Yemen and Syria.
The project aims to teach students about the humanitarian issues in the region, and encourages them to support the charity’s ‘Sham and Yemen Relief’ campaign.
Jassim Bin Salem, executive director for international development at QC, headed a delegation who visited the Doha Independent Secondary School to launch the campaign.
Mohammed Saif, director of QC’s media department, stated: “Carrying out these activities in schools for the benefit of the campaign launched by QC to relieve Sham and Yemen is a continuation of the humanitarian and relief efforts made by QC to alleviate the suffering and pain of Sham and Yemen children enduring difficult humanitarian conditions which call for urgent intervention.”
“In addition, the campaign aims to enhance community voluntary work, disseminate its culture and instill the values of voluntary work in students. This includes preparing generations to believe in the importance of voluntary work in serving and developing the community,” he added.
Bin Salem met over 200 students during his visit, and addressed the school, explaining that students in both countries are in dire need of food, medicine and shelter.
Other QC officials visited various schools to discuss the difficult humanitarian situations arising in both countries, and to garner support for their campaign by sending letters to parents.
“The letter to parents seeks their consent to contribute to the fundraising campaign to help alleviate the suffering of thousands of Syrians and Yemeni children and their families, displaced from their homes and land and living in miserable conditions,” said a spokesperson.
