Nadem Bashir, founder president Professional Toastmasters, has taken oath as the new president of the Pakistan Welfare Forum (PWF). Bashir is also a former president of the Pakistan Engineers Forum.
The oath ceremony was conducted by Pakistan Ambassador Mohamed Sarfraz Khanzada. The PWF office-bearers for the year 2012-13 are: Ahmed Hussain (vice president), Dr Abdur Rehman (general secretary), Ghaiyas A Rao (deputy secretary), Asfand Ansari (finance secretary) and Sayab Khan (information secretary). Sher Ali, Raheel Khan, Haji Nasib Shah, Mehtab Satti and Rehmat Baloch are the executive members.
Khanzada lauded the services of the outgoing PWF officials. The envoy, who is also chairman of the Pakistan Education Center, said the PEC is bearing the education expenses of 83 students.
Earlier, addressing the PWF general body meeting, Mohamed Idrees Anwar, mentor of the forum, highlighted the importance of extending financial support to needy community members especially in areas like education, health and during national disasters. While presenting the accounts for the previous year, Abid Hussaini, informed that the PWF paid QR202, 000 to 73 needy students, QR50,000 to 11 patients and QR310,000 as financial help to 621 persons.
Nadeem Bashir, briefed the audience about his team’s priorities and said they would focus on a membership drive. Dr Mansour Rizvi, community affairs attache at the embassy, pointed out that though individuals do extend help to the needy, efforts as a team bring better results. - Ashraf Siddiqui
