Al Wa’ab City: to be a premium retail, leisure and entertainment destination

Qtel has signed a strategic agreement with Al Wa’ab City that will create a “first-of-its-kind communication infrastructure”, deploying the “most advanced solutions” in telecommunications for its major real estate development in Qatar.
Under the deal, Qtel will provide the “network foundations for Al Wa’ab City and develop comprehensive ICT solutions” for each phase of the mixed-use community.
Over 2,000 residential units, 100,000 sq m of retail and 200,000 sq m of commercial accommodation as well as a world class hotel are being developed and completed in phases in Al Wa’ab City.
To service this rapidly growing residential and business hub, a number of dedicated GSM sites for mobile services, high-level fibre connections for broadband and fixed line services will be installed, as well as innovative in-building solutions for the different elements of the project.
Al Wa’ab City is founded on the vision of developing the first fully integrated community within Doha, a premium retail, leisure and entertainment destination.
Sheikha Hanadi Nasser bin Khaled al-Thani, CEO of Al Wa’ab City Management said, “Collaboration is at the core of our values and as such, we see this strategic alliance with Qtel as a natural partnership. Al Wa’ab City is a Qatari real estate development aiming to bring people and businesses together, within a self-sustained community inspiring great opportunities. Thus, we are truly pleased to welcome Qtel, the country’s leading telecommunications provider and worldwide ambassador of Qatari business, in this partnership. The provision of the highest level of communication services within Al Wa’ab City is a must and will add value to the development; improving the quality of life for residents and enhancing operations for businesses alike”.
“The phased approach to development, where the network infrastructure is designed and implemented in parallel with specific in-building communication services, is a unique approach within Qatar.  It will deliver the highest-quality of services for residents, while ensuring there is significant scope for upgrades and development,” a Qtel statement said.
Qtel CEO Sheikh Saud Nasser al-Thani said: “Qtel has a proud history of working with many of Qatar’s leading developers on the nation’s most important projects, and we are delighted to bring the full weight of our experience to this new development. Al Wa’ab City will have an incredibly positive impact on the lives of residents and the wider community of Qatar, and we believe the comprehensive communication solution that we will implement will make an important contribution to its success.”
Qtel, he said, continues to support Qatar’s rapid rate of development by investing in a comprehensive ICT network infrastructure across the country, more than 1,000 km of high-speed fibre optic cables have been laid throughout Doha, providing the potential to offer the fastest-ever Internet experience, as well as high-definition television.
Al Wa’ab City will provide housing for more than 8,000 people, yet offer the lowest density ratio in any new major development in the country.
“Underground parking and intelligent design will ensure clear, green, open spaces for residents and the wider public to enjoy. The network solutions from Qtel will complement this sense of space and openness,” the statement added.
