Qatar Petroleum yesterday honoured some 243 QP-sponsored Qatari students who have successfully completed their studies in 2011.
The event at the Sheraton was held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed Saleh al-Sada.
The graduation recognition ceremony, which was organised by QP’s Corporate Training Department, honoured eight QP staff who had obtained master’s degrees, three who had finished post-graduate studies and 136 students who had received bachelor’s degrees.
Also recognised during the event were 16 students who had obtained certificates, 61 who had received diplomas, seven students with Higher National Diploma (HND), and 12 others who had achieved their TAFE (Training and Further Education) Certificate 3.
QP Board of Directors deputy chairman and RasGas managing director Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi congratulated the graduates on behalf of al-Sada and presented each one of them with a certificate of appreciation for their dedication and as recognition of their academic achievements.
“QP’s scholarship programme is fully aligned with the pillar for human resources development as articulated in Qatar National Vision 2030. I am confident our latest batch of QP graduates would contribute significantly not only in improving the efficiency of QP’s extensive operations but also in Qatar’s continued development,” said al-Mohannadi.
QP director (Administration) Ahmad Ali Abdulla al-Mawlawi also lauded the graduates for their hard work and commitment, which were key to completion of their studies.
“I would like to commend all of you for doing your best in your studies, and we now look forward to the important role that you will play in QP’s operations. Consistent with the corporation’s long-standing policy, we will continue to provide you with programmes and opportunities for your continued professional development as you undertake your duties and responsibilities in your respective departments,” said al-Mawlawi.
Many of the QP graduates took their studies in Qatar, while the rest were enrolled in major universities and other academic institutions in Australia, France, Lebanon, Oman, the UK, and the US.
The UK is the main destination for QP-sponsored students who are studying abroad. In line with QP’s scholarship programme, their fields of study include petroleum, chemical and computer engineering, computer sciences electrical engineering, environmental engineering, geology, and industrial engineering.
Other courses covered by the programme include fire and safety engineering, logistics and supply chain, instrumentation engineering, civil engineering and quantity surveying.
With completion of their academic studies and training courses, the graduates will now apply their knowledge about what they have learnt in the various QP departments to which they are assigned.
Among these departments are engineering business, field support, gas processing and gas recycling, human resources, oil development, offshore and onshore engineering, ICT infrastructure and information systems, purchasing and contracts.
