Japanese community members at the reception hosted by Ambassador Monji
Ambassador of Japan to Qatar Kenjiro Monji hosted a reception at his residence for the members of the Japanese community to coincide with the 40th anniversary celebrations of Japan-Qatar diplomatic relations.
At the gathering, the Qatar-Japan 2012 logo was unveiled to the members of the Japanese community. The logo was created by Qatar Japan 2012 Committee under the Qatar Museums Authority (QMA), to which the embassy of Japan participates as a member.
The logo is a composition of “Qatar” and “Japan” written in Arabic and Japanese calligraphy respectively depicting the bonds of friendship between peoples of Qatar and Japan.
The Qatar Japan 2012 project was launched in Tokyo on December 21 at a reception hosted by the Qatar Ambassador to Japan, Yousef Mohammed Bilal, at Tokyo’s Imperial Hotel on the occasion of Qatar National Day, which Ambassador Monji attended.
The function began with a screening of a video that was produced by the QMA and the embassy and has been posted on Youtube (

The video/slide show was followed by the speech by Ambassador Monji on the significance of the anniversary year of 2012 to both Japan and Qatar.
Monji said that the embassy will host various events in Doha in close co-operation with the Qatar authorities.
Qatar will also organise events in Japan to promote Qatar.
Ambassador Monji also praised the role of Japanese companies engaged in various projects in Qatar, contributing to its overall development.
He also emphasised the importance of diversifying the bilateral relations beyond economy to include other areas such as culture, education, science and technology, sports and tourism.
The ambassador said he hoped through Qatar Japan 2012, the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples will be enhanced.
Later, Japanese Society in Qatar president Keiichi Kadowaki thanked Monji for his guidance and encouragement provided to the Japanese companies and Japanese citizens in Qatar to participate in the upcoming events this year.
Midori Yajima, who won the gold medal in the Asian Shooting Championship now being held in Qatar, was a special guest to the reception.
