The QFI and Brazilian students interact during a session
Twenty-two high school students and six teachers from the Qatar Foundation International (QFI) have supported an initiative run by BibliASPA - an Arabic language and culture programmes in S?o Paulo and Curitiba, Brazil.
The students from the Qatar Leadership Academy (QLA) and Qatar Academy (QA), who spent the day with their visiting colleagues, gave presentations about their home countries and then took part in learning activities including team-building exercises such as ascending a climbing wall together and group obstacle challenges.
The Qatari and Brazilian students also rode camels and horses and participated in art projects together.
“QLA was happy to host the Brazilian students and it was a great exchange for our cadets and the Brazilian students to share their cultures and the Qatari heritage such as camel and horse riding, Arda (sword dance), henna for girls and falconry,” QLA Administrative Affairs head Abdullah al-Naimi said.
“QLA cadets shared their leadership skills and the uniqueness of the academy as the only boarding school in GCC and the first as a leadership academy in the region.”
BibliASPA director Paulo Farah said: “Today was an excellent opportunity for our Brazilian students to learn not only about the Qatari culture, but also where and how they learn together. Our students are learning Arabic in Brazil and it is such a positive experience for them to continue learning the language and especially seeing that language in a cultural context.”
The day at QLA was a perfect opportunity for the students to also practise their photography skills.
QFI has partnered with National Geographic to integrate a photo camp and teach digital storytelling during the 10-day exchange trip.
In support of the learning objectives, National Geographic photographers and QFI staff were teaching students how to use photography and video to communicate their ideas and explore their own communities through the camera’s lens.
National Geographic photo camp has provided programmes for more than 1,000 young people in over 50 locations since 2003.
The students will continue their exchange trip for the next several days, visiting important sites throughout Qatar and learning more about one another.
