Shura Council participates in meeting of Arab Parliament's Palestine Committee

The Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Palestine Committee in the Arab Parliament.HE Member of the Shura Council and Member of the Arab Parliament Sheikha bint Youssef al-Jufairi, represented the council at the meeting. Held at the Arab Parliament headquarters in Cairo, the meeting discussed the developments in Palestine and the situation in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian Territories.The meeting also approved a draft resolution on the situation in Palestine, to be presented at the Arab Parliament session slated for Saturday. Addressing the meeting, HE Sheikha bint Youssef al-Jufairi said that the war on Gaza has exposed the true face of West, which for decades has praised the values of human rights and denounced their violation, but did not see the killing of tens of thousands of innocent people as a reason to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.HE al-Jufairi also pointed out that the humanitarian aid provided by Qatar to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is a moral and humanitarian obligation, and it is also a continuation of the humanitarian and development support provided by the State to improve living conditions in Palestine.For his part, HE Member of the Shua Council and Member of the Arab Parliament Salem bin Rashid al-Muraikhi participated in the meeting of the committee concerned with developing joint Arab action its mechanisms in the Arab Parliament, which touched on ways to enhance joint Arab action and discussed the mechanisms to achieve this.

Six months of bloodshed: The toll on Gaza’s children

The bloodiest ever Gaza war which broke out over six months ago has taken an appalling toll on children. NGO Save the Children estimates that some 26,000 children have been killed or injured in the war, 17,000 have been orphaned, according to UNICEF, and 1 in 3 children under two years old in northern Gaza is suffering from acute malnutrition. In total, at least 33,207 people have been killed in the besieged Palestinian territory in Israel's retaliatory campaign for the October 7 attack, according to Hamas-run Gaza's health ministry. The unprecedented Hamas raid on southern Israel resulted in the deaths of 1,170 Israelis and foreigners, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures. AFP

Gazans struggle to secure flour for daily bread

Shura Council Speaker meets French Parliamentary Delegation

HE Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim here met today with a delegation from the Senate of the French Republic, headed by HE Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and the Armed Forces in the French Senate Cedric Perrin, currently visiting Qatar.During the meeting, they discussed a host of topics related to parliamentary cooperation relations between the two sides, They also exchanged views on a number of topics of mutual interest.The meeting also touched on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and the continuing aggression by Israeli forces against the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. HE the Shura Council Speaker highlighted the efforts of the State of Qatar, led by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, aimed at reaching a ceasefire.Within this context, HE Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim emphasized the parliamentarians' leading role in influencing the political decision. His Excellency also urged the governments to take a decisive stance consistent with international legitimacy resolutions regarding the brutal massacres committed by the occupation forces against defenseless civilians.In turn, the French delegation praised Qatar's mediation efforts to end the war, as well as its regional and international role calling for resolving all disputes through dialogue and peaceful means. The delegation stressed that the State of Qatar plays an important role as an impartial mediator to promote international consensus.The meeting was attended by HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, a number of Shura council members and officials, and HE Ambassador of the French Republic to the State of Qatar Jean-Baptiste Faivre.
