The ambitious QR3.5bn Lusail Expressway would be ready for commissioning in the first quarter of next year when the under-construction Al Khaleej Al Gharbi underpass (near Rainbow round intersection) is completed.
Informing this on Wednesday, a senior Ashghal official said the work on the tunnel is in full swing and the overhead bridge in the area is already open to traffic.
The more than 5.5km Lusail Expressway is one of the major projects currently being executed in Qatar and is expected to give vital connectivity between several areas of the West Bay with the fast developing zones of the Doha city.
Two interchanges other than the Al Khaleej Al Gharbi Interchange, Onaiza and Pearl have already opened besides the two river bridges in the area.
Once the project is complete, the main carriageway will consist of four lanes in each direction apart from a large number of feeder roads, some of which are already open while others are under construction.
