Emir sends message to Bulgarian PM
His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani sent yesterday a written message to Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov pertaining to bilateral relations and ways to advance and develop them. The message was handed over by Qatar’s ambassador to Bulgaria Rashid bin Ali al-Khater at a meeting with the Bulgarian prime minister in Sofia yesterday.

Putin-Erdogan-Rouhani summit in Ankara today
Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday launched the construction of Turkey’s first nuclear power station and vowed to accelerate the delivery of air defence systems to Ankara, in a new tightening of an increasingly close alliance that has alarmed Nato. Putin held several hours of talks with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the first of a two-day visit to Ankara that will see the two strongmen leaders joined tomorrow by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani for a summit devoted to Syria.

Police confirm ‘active shooter’ at YouTube HQ
Police said yesterday they were responding to an “active shooter” at YouTube’s offices in California as social media images showed employees evacuating the campus. San Bruno police warned people to stay away from the area housing the headquarters of the Google-owned video sharing service near San Francisco. “We are responding to an active shooter. Please stay away from Cherry Ave & Bay Hill Drive,” the police department tweeted.

Ronaldo scores 2 as Real beat Juve, Bayern win too
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, including with a spectacular overhead kick, as holders Real Madrid swept to a 3-0 win at Juventus to put themselves in a strong position to advance to the last four of the Champions League. In another quarter-final, Bayern Munich came from behind to win 2-1 at Sevilla in their first-leg match. In Turin, Ronaldo became the first player to score in 10 straight Champions League games when he prodded home Isco’s cross in the third minute against Juventus. He then scored a stunning goal to make it two for Real.
