Qatar’s vast infrastructure sector would be opened further to wider markets with the inaugural staging of ‘The Big 5 Qatar’ slated next week in Doha, a Public Works Authority (Ashghal) official has said.
“The Big 5 event will encourage construction companies to explore the available and upcoming avenues in Qatar’s infrastructure development, understand the market, and participate in bidding procedures to share their expertise and be a part of one of the world’s most dynamic infrastructure transformations,” said Ashghal Planning and Quality Department manager Jamal Sharida al-Kaabi.
Al-Kaabi made the statement on Tuesday during a press conference announcing The Big 5 Qatar’s debut in the country from September 24-26 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. He was joined by officials from Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), Qatar Development Bank (QDB), and Tadmur Trading.
QDB acting executive director of Intelligence and Localisation Saleh Majid al-Khulaifi said the bank’s support for the event is part of its wide range of initiatives to provide the small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector with the needed support to build their capacity and contribute effectively to the sustainability and diversification of the national economy, in addition to establish a foothold in regional and global markets.
“From this time forth, QDB will provide Qatari entrepreneurs in the construction industry with adequate space to help them expand their reach and network with greater companies, as well as showcase their product offerings, which will give them an opportunity to nurture and enhance business relationships that will benefit them as entrepreneurs and their SMEs, thereby achieving our strategic objectives for a sustainable and diversified economy,” al-Khulaifi said.
Together with The Big 5 Qatar organisers, dmg events Doha, QTA will hold a ‘hosted buyers programme’ that will bring buyers from 16 countries to meet local manufacturers and SMEs during scheduled face-to-face appointments, according to QTA director of Exhibitions Ahmed al-Obaidli.
“In collaboration with The Big 5 Qatar, we look forward to providing international visitors a memorable experience in Qatar as a place where they can do business and enjoy unique tourism offerings,” he said.
According to Tadmur Trading Business Development manager Omar Halawa, Qatar’s construction industry will benefit from the event through the networking activities of local manufacturers and companies with their international counterparts. It is also an opportunity for the participants to showcase their products and services.

Sleem said The Big 5 exhibitors will showcase the latest innovations in construction across seven dedicated product sectors covering all stages of the construction life-cycle.
“More than 230 exhibitors from 20 countries will participate in the event. National pavilions from China, Turkey, Italy, India, Iran, and Kuwait are taking part to support the ambitious demands of Qatar’s built environment.”
