Standard specifications of energy drinks should be stricter and more defined by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) in co-operation with the entities concerned, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) recommended on Tuesday.
The council urged that the MoCI should increase related awareness campaigns through various media to instruct the targeted audience about the potential risks of energy drinks.
The CMC recommended that Ministry of Public Health should consider the possibility of preparing relevant scientific studies and researches about the possible harmful effects of energy drinks on human health.
At the bi-weekly regular session, the CMC members reviewed the responses of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment on some of the council's previous recommendations, including the regulation of road signs and billboards at the outskirts of the country, and the allocation of commercial spaces at residential apartment buildings or commercial buildings. The council approved the response and decided to follow up on the updates.
The CMC hosted Safar Mubarak al-Shafi, chairman of Joint Committee for Combating Rainwater Emergencies and Risks, and members. He gave a brief presentation on the work plans of the committee and its key efforts in the field. Also, a delegation from Qatar University Social and Economic Survey Research Institute visited the council as part of preparing a "Survey on the Central Municipal Council Elections".
