Sales of locally produced vegetables amounted to 301 tonnes in January as part of the initiative to market Premium Qatari vegetables, launched by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).

Through the programme, the participating farms have the opportunity to directly market their premium products at the participating shopping malls without any intermediary.

The programme has seen considerable success and development since its launch in December 2016, the MME said in a statement, as the number of participating farms has increased from 16 back then to 130 at present.

The initiative aims to improve the marketing of locally produced vegetables and encourage more investors to invest in the country's agricultural field.

The MME also recently informed that the sales of local vegetables in January, as part of the Qatar Farms programme, amounted to 1,859 tonnes. This is considered the second initiative of its kind after the Premium Qatari Vegetables programme.

The Qatar Farms programme was launched with the participation of four shopping centres and turned out to be highly popular among consumers, the statement noted.
