There is a chance of light rain in some places by this evening, the Qatar Met department has said.

The weather office has also issued a warning for thundershowers in offshore areas by this afternoon, along with strong winds and high seas.

This is in line with the Met department’s earlier report on unsettled weather and chances of scattered rain in the country on Thursday and Friday.

Reiterating this, the department Wednesday tweeted the following: “Unsettled weather with a chance of thundery rain offshore during (the) weekend and strong easterly wind(s) expected on Friday, please be careful and avoid going to sea.”

Thursday’s detailed forecast says cloudy conditions are likely in offshore areas and there is a chance of scattered, which may become thundery at times. The wind speed in these areas may go up to 30 knots during thundershowers, with the sea level rising to 9ft.

Inshore, moderate temperature is expected during the day and it will be cloudy later, with a possibility of light rain in some areas by the evening.

The minimum temperature on Thursday is expected to be 10C in Abu Samra, 12C in Dukhan and 13C in Mesaieed and Wakrah, while in Doha it will be considerably higher at 20C. The maximum will be 23C in Al Khor, Mesaieed and Wakrah, 25C in Doha and Dukhan, and 26C in Ruwais.

Wednesday, the minimum temperature was 9C in Abu Samra, 10C in Mesaieed and 17C in Doha, while the maximum was 27C in Karana and 26C in Doha.

The Met department had said in its earlier report that this period is known for fast-changing weather conditions in the region. The cloud cover will gradually increase on Thursday and Friday and the rain will mostly be light in intensity, becoming thundery occasionally – especially offshore.

The winds are expected to be northeasterly to southeasterly, fresh to strong, which may cause blowing dust in open areas – particularly on Friday. There is also a marine warning, for windy conditions and high waves, during this period.

Preliminary indicators also show improved chances of rain – of variable intensity – on Sunday in most parts of the country. The rain may turn thundery at times, accompanied by strong winds.

The Met department has urged people to cautious and avoid going to sea during this period, as well as to follow latest updates through its official social media accounts.
