The School Canteens Committee at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has set terms and conditions for companies to qualify for supplying food to school canteens in the new academic year, which will officially start on August 25.

This is in line with the government's efforts to ensure that food supplied in school canteens meets the required standards.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said the qualifying companies will supply food to a specified number of schools.

Schools shall also be distributed in groups according to geographic zones.

Interested companies may review the requirements for suppliers, dietary and financial conditions, and further details on how to apply for qualification by visiting the ministry's website for information.

For direct inquiry, one can visit the Health and Safety Department (21st floor) at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the Al Dafna area, by dialling 44044392-44044397 or via e-mail: [email protected]

The committee is responsible for approving pre-qualification requirements and specifications for the management of school canteens, approving price lists, supervising the qualification process of suppliers, ensuring conformity of the supplied food items to the requirements, adopting a mechanism for monitoring the canteens and recommending the appropriate sanctions to the offending suppliers, as well as assuming other duties, according to an earlier report.

The committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education as well as other entities concerned in Qatar.
