Alfdardan Jewellery has lauded the efforts of the Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC), chaired by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, to boost the country’s tourism industry.
“We congratulate HE the Prime Minister for putting the country on the world tourism map through the initiatives of the Qatar National Tourism Council,” Alfardan Jewellery president Ali Alfardan stressed.
He emphasised that the positive attention Qatar is getting from the international community would play a significant role in attracting more visitors to major events, such as the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition (DWJE) and other sporting events leading to the country’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
As the government continues to announce the completion of major infrastructure projects related to the World Cup and Qatar National Vision 2030, Alfardan said “the forthcoming years will be very busy for Qatar”.
Similarly, Alfardan lauded the government for easing its visa policies, which, according to him, helped draw thousands of visitors to the DJWE’s 16th edition held in February this year.
The latest instalment of the DJWE witnessed 27,000 visitors over the six-day event, which was the largest in terms of participation, with more than 500 brands from over 10 countries covering an area of 29,000sqm, according to the organisers.
“Qatar’s easing of its visa policies will play a big role in attracting more tourists to the country, so we expect more visitors to the exhibition in 2019… the next DJWE will be outstanding because the whole government is supporting this event.
“They have been supporting us in the past but now the government is more open to ideas. And they are also conscious about the timing of the exhibition so that it will not compete with the dates of other similar events worldwide,” Alfardan told Gulf Times on the sidelines of the first anniversary of the Qatar Watch Club (QWC), which was celebrated recently in Doha.
Just like the QWC, Alfardan said there are many collectors for "complication watches", especially in Qatar. “These collectors follow all models, limited-edition watches and unique watches that are difficult to deliver, so there is always a market for this worldwide.”
During the QWC’s first anniversary celebrations, Alfardan Jewellery, in partnership with Chopard, unveiled a 30-piece limited edition of its L.U.C watch made exclusively for the club.
QWC board member Mohamed Waleed al-Sayed thanked Alfardan Jewellery and Chopard for supporting the club and producing an exclusive timepiece for QWC members.
Alfardan assured the QWC of Alfardan Jewellery’s continuous support, adding this is the first time that the company has partnered with Chopard to produce a limited-edition L.U.C watch for the club.
“We have to appreciate the fact that the Qatar Watch Club is based in Doha, and they are following the latest models from different brands; they are aware of all brands, historical 'complication' watches and all types of 'complications',” Alfardan said.
