Al Rayyan Municipality’s general control section removed 475 abandoned vehicles out of the 1,288 it had detected in the area, it was announced yesterday.
This came during a campaign undertaken by the authorities to remove all abandoned vehicles from the area in co-operation with a number of entities concerned, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said in a statement. A total of 394 violation reports were also issued during the campaign.
Stickers had earlier been pasted on the 1,288 abandoned vehicles warning their owners to remove them, the MME said, adding that work was going on to remove the remaining cars after taking the necessary legal procedures.
Meanwhile, Al Rayyan Municipality - in co-operation with the departments concerned at the MME and the competent security authorities - has started a campaign to remove all buildings and other structures that encroach on farms within its jurisdiction and constitute a violation of the relevant laws.
Before the campaign was launched, the municipality distributed notices among the owners of farms, workshops, warehouses and companies to ensure that they removed all violating structures from such farms, in accordance with Law No 10 of 1987 and its amendments regarding public and private property, and Law No 18 of 2017 on public hygiene, the statement noted.
The campaign aims at the removal of all structures, buildings and installations that are not meant for agricultural purposes on these farms, such as labourers’ accommodation, warehouses, garages and others.
The main focus of the initiative is to make sure that these farms are used only for licensed agricultural and farming activities in order to respond to the food security needs of the country, the statement adds.
