Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) recently concluded its 'Your blood...Your Health' campaign, which was held throughout August.
The initiative sought to raise awareness of blood cancer, one of the most prevalent types of cancer in the country, according to the Ministry of Public Health's Qatar National Cancer Registry (2015).
The campaign featured a number of awareness activities at malls, which focused on warning signs, symptoms, risk factors, methods of prevention and the importance of periodic examination for early detection, QCS said in a statement.
This was in addition to the distribution of vouchers for consultation and free tests for the public, done in co-operation with entities including Hamad Medical Corporation, Mall of Qatar, and Syrian American Medical Center.
Hiba Nassar, head of the Health Education Department at QCS, stressed the importance of getting regular tests done for early detection of the disease, as well as conducting comprehensive periodic analysis that would help detect potential diseases at an early stage, especially ancer.
She explained that each type of blood cancer has a different way of spreading and responding to treatment; so, it is important to determine which type a person has.
Nassar also shed light on the different types of blood cancer and their prevalence.
