The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded pedestrians to exercise due caution while crossing roads. In an advisory posted on social media, the ministry said people should “use the nearest pedestrian crossing such as footbridge, crosswalk or pedestrian signal” if they have to cross a road.
“Please consider the distance and speed of the approaching vehicles while crossing the road,” it continued.
The MoI also advised pedestrians to ensure that traffic has come to a complete stop before they cross the road.
It could be recalled that the MoI started recording violations of traffic rules by pedestrians from August 1 and, accordingly, impose fines on violators.
The move is aimed at preserving lives, strengthening discipline on the streets and organising roads in a way that meets the requirements of modern cities.
The General Directorate of Traffic had also launched a campaign that included a number of activities and events to raise awareness of pedestrian violations.
