Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) has sent a text message to parents of its students, saying that 2019-2020 will be the school's last academic year.
In the message, DMIS has requested the parents to look for other schools for their children for the next academic year (2020-2021).
The full message said, “Dear Parent, We are constrained to inform you that due to unavoidable reasons, the last academic year of the School will be 2019-20 and hence you are requested to ensure places for your kids in other schools in Qatar for the academic year 2020-21. However, we shall update you on this matter in the coming days in case of any development otherwise. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to you and this message is sent to you as advance intimation. DMIS”
Though Gulf Times tried to contact the school principal right from Wednesday afternoon, there was no response to repeated phone calls. Sources said the matter was related to some administrative issues and efforts were on to resolve them.
The message left the parents a worried lot, as they sought information through social media and some also requested the Indian embassy to intervene.
Several frantic parents also contacted Gulf Times and said its was a worrying situation. “In recent years, it is very difficult to get admission in Indian schools in the country and in such a scenario, I don’t know what to do. Getting admission in other schools is going to be extremely tough and I hope the situation improves. Otherwise, it will be a nightmare,” a parent said.
“We don’t know what to do. What is the future of the students, especially those who are in Class 9 and Class 11? They have been registered with the Central Board of Secondary Education and have to complete the examinations with the board. If DMIS closes down, what will happen to these students? The schools should have a responsible approach,” another parent added.
