NextFairs Events has announced that the inaugural edition of 'Qatar Travel Mart 2020' will be held in November next year at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).

The event strengthens Qatar National Tourism Council’s Strategy 2030, which works to develop greater diversification of visitor source markets and tourism products and services.

Qatar Travel Mart 2020 will offer a unique platform for leaders in the tourism and travel sectors and potential suppliers to discuss the current tourism trends and develop strategies to boost this sector.

Exhibitors of this event will include key government and public sector authorities, travel and tourism professionals, museums, companies from the entertainment and luxury industry, educational tourism institutions, marketing companies, retail destinations, tour operators, travel agents, and event organisers amongst others.

According to a study prepared by Nextfairs, the tourism sector will contribute QR133.5bn towards Qatar’s GDP and create more than 284,000 jobs in 2028.

While gross value of investments in 2028 will reach QR14.5bn in different sectors of tourism. Since 2014, Qatar’s tourism sector has grown and matured rapidly and is primed for a further upward trajectory.

International tourist visits in Qatar are expected to grow at a five-year rate of 5% to 2.9mn, and hotel supply is expected to grow at a five-year rate of 12.8% to offer 46,000 hotel rooms in 2023.

The event supports Qatar’s recent significant cultural and retail investments and developments, which include the construction of the National Museum of Qatar and Msheireb Downtown Doha, along with major infrastructure developments, which includes the recently opened Doha Metro which connects visitors to major landmarks and Doha Port.

The QR2bn project to redevelop Doha Port which began in 2019 is set to welcome 300,000 cruise visitors in the 2019/2020 season.
