The organising committee of the global Reimagine Education Conference and Awards has announced Qatar University’s (QU) Al-Bairaq programme as one of the nominated projects in the Cultivating Curiosity category. It has been selected out of 1,500 educational projects.
Al-Bairaq is a non-traditional educational project, in which students at Qatari secondary schools work in teams with highly exquisite university-level scientists on practical scientific problems in authentic contexts.
Reimagine Education is a global conference and competition open to all who aspire to change education. The awards programme is a partnership between QS Quacquarelli Symonds and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Al-Bairaq has achieved great success in this competition in past years, winning three consecutive years in the Presence Learning and Cultivating Curiosity categories.
The conference will be held from December 8 at Imperial College London and the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in the United Kingdom. Al-Bairaq is invited by the organisers to attend the conference and to present on its unique history.
The presentation will include Al-Bairaq's methodology, which focuses on stimulating curiosity and learning through practical experience. The most important methods are STEAM Learning, which provides an integrated curriculum of education including science, technology, engineering, art, math and inquiry based learning in which students learn by asking questions and solving problems instead of listing or reciting facts and knowledge.
President of al-Bairaq Programme and head, Communication and Outreach at QU, Dr Noora Jabor al-Thani, expressed her happiness at participating in this prestigious conference and awards ceremony for the fourth consecutive year. She commented that such competitions are a great motivator for educational programmes and initiatives for the students to develop themselves further. It is also an opportunity to introduce the programme on a global platform and share the latest educational methods that Al-Bairaq utilises.
