The Shura Council held its regular weekly meeting Monday under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Council discussed the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee's report on a draft law on the unified economic registry.
The Council also discussed the report of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee on a draft law amending some provisions of the Penal Code issued by Law No 11 of 2004, and a draft law amending some provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code issued by Law No 23 of 2004.
The Council approved the draft laws and submitted its recommendations to the Cabinet.
The Council also discussed the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee's report on a draft law amending some provisions of Law No 15 of 2014 on regulating charitable activities.
After an extensive discussion on the draft law, the Shura Council decided to recommend an amendment to some of its articles, approve it in its amended form and refer its recommendations to the Cabinet.
The session concluded with the Speaker briefing the Council on the results of his visit to the Turkish capital, Ankara, from December 11-13, 2019, during which he signed a memorandum of understanding with the president of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
In accordance with the memorandum of understanding, the two sides agreed to enhance parliamentary co-operation between the two countries.
HE al-Mahmoud also briefed the Council on his participation and the accompanying delegation in the work of the second meeting of the Executive Council and 12th Plenary of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, which was held in the Turkish city of Antalya from December 13 to 18, 2019, and his meetings held on the sidelines of event.
Meanwhile, the Shura Council's Services and Public Utilities Committee held a meeting Monday, where it elected HE Hadi bin Saeed al-Khayarin as acting rapporteur.
During the meeting, the committee discussed a draft law on railways, and decided to complete its study at its next meeting.
