The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized today a number of activities on the occasion of Qatar Sport Day, with the participation of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, HE Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, and a number of diplomats, heads of diplomatic missions, ministry's officials and their families.



HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed the great importance attached by the State of Qatar to sports because of its interest in ensuring healthy life for all people living in Qatar.

In press remarks, His Excellency said that this importance is reflected in Qatar's hosting of world sports tournaments in recent years, as well as its hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani noted that sport is a common language spoken and communicated by all, and it also unites peoples behind a noble mission.

For his part, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs used to hold several sporting events in the country and abroad through all the Qatari diplomatic missions and consulates around the world.

In press statements, His Excellency explained that sport diplomacy is parallel to official diplomacy, pointing out that it strengthens social and cultural ties between peoples, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attaches great importance to it, especially on the country's Sport Day.

HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi affirmed that all activities organized by the State in recent years have strengthened its role in sport and this qualifies it to host a distinguished World Cup in 2022.

Held at the Diplomatic Club, the Ministry's activities included a variety of sporting activities such as football, volleyball, basketball and tennis, the use of sports equipment, horse and camel riding, bicycles, and popular games as well as activities for children.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' participation in the Sport Day reflects its keenness on raising awareness of the important role of sport in the development of individuals and societies, and in considering it a type of diplomacy that brings people closer.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been organizing these events on annual basis with the aim of promoting awareness of the importance of sport and its role in the lives of individuals and societies, and encouraging its practice as a civilized and healthy behavior and as an incentive to strengthen social relations between all employees of the Ministry and representatives of diplomatic missions.
