*2 temporary facilities with a total of 4,645 beds ready
*About 35,000 volunteers join fight against coronavirus


Qatar will make available as many as 18,000 beds in a few weeks in field medical facilities that will provide basic medical and nursing services for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
This was announced by HE the Spokesperson of the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohamed al-Khater Tuesday at a press conference.
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in co-operation with the armed forces has established two temporary medical facilities with a total of 4,645 beds to provide basic medical attention for workers mildly affected by Covid-19.
“These two facilities provide medical and nursing care around the clock. The patients are provided appropriate nutrition, security, waste management and internet access,” she explained.

MoCI to sign contracts to enhance food supply

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) will sign contracts this week with 14 companies to raise the strategic stock of food and consumer goods in the country, 
announced HE Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohamed al-Khater during the press conference.
“This is within the framework of Qatar’s plan to secure the flow of imports to the local market of food and consumer goods and supplies in sufficient quantities at reasonable prices and in high quality to meet the needs of citizens and residents,” she explained.
HE al-Khater stressed that all the materials are sufficiently available, and urged the residents not to crowd into supermarkets and foodstuff stores as part of the preventive measures against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

The top official described as overwhelming the response of citizens and residents to the calls issued on March 19 to volunteer in the fight against Covid-19.
“The number of volunteers with the Ministry of Public Health, Qatar Charity, and Qatar Red Crescent reached approximately 35,000,” she announced.
The MoPH is now working with the relevant authorities to distribute volunteers according to the need and expertise. HE al-Khater stressed that Qatar is keen to provide the highest levels of medical services for all without any exception and free of charge.
During the press conference, HE al-Khater reviewed the latest developments regarding the closed part of the Industrial Area.
MoPH has introduced three mobile units for examination, in addition to six ambulances that roam the area for random examination, in order to ensure that residents are free of Covid-19 and transfer those suspected of being infected to health authorities to receive the necessary care.
“Food and medical supplies are being provided for the residents of the area in coordination with the authorities concerned. Nearly a thousand vehicles enter daily to transport essential materials while taking all necessary health precautions,” she said.
HE al-Khater praised the cooperation of the residents of the area and their patience in these difficult times in addition to the co-operation of the relevant embassies to raise awareness and reassure their communities.
“The transportation unit at the Amiri Air Force Qatari supervised, in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the operating of regular flights to China to provide and meet all the needs of the local market of masks and medical sterilisers,” she said.
HE al-Khater pointed out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged citizens, children, husbands, and wives of Qataris abroad to register their data through the Foreign Ministry's application and website to communicate with them in emergencies.
She stressed that Qatar does not forget in this crisis its brothers and friends who are doing their part to combat the epidemic.
“Qatar has sent a number of medical shipments to friendly countries to combat this virus, including aid for the Palestinian brothers.
“The Ministry of Public Health is in constant contact with its counterparts in different countries and the World Health Organisation to update the latest developments and solutions that can be applied to limit the spread of the virus.
“Qatar will continue to provide assistance and support to all countries to combat this epidemic,” HE al-Khater affirmed.
