Reigning QNB Stars League champions Al Sadd announced that Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez was keenly following up on the players as they train at their homes in order to maintain their physical fitness during the current stoppage of tournaments, as part of the measures being taken by the State of Qatar to limit the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19).
The club’s official website said Xavi had entrusted the team’s physical trainer Evan Torres with the task of defining a physical programme for the players, in mornings and evenings, with an aim to prepare them well in the current period.
Torres communicates with the players on a daily basis as they practise individually at their homes.
Meanwhile, defender Tarek Salman is recuperating from a knee injury under the supervision of the first team’s medical staff. The player had sustained the injury during Al Sadd’s Qatar Clasico against Al Rayyan in Week 17 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League, which the latter won by a 1-0 margin.
Tarek is expected to be ready by next week and undergo the team training sessions.
QNB Stars League side Umm Salal players continued their training at their homes under the supervision of Moroccan coach Aziz Ben Askar and fitness trainer.
Umm Salal players are training at specific times with the help of customised devices as they aim to be on top of their readiness ahead of the resumption of matches.
Umm Salal Sports Club official Ali Amin hailed the commitment being shown by all players towards the training programmes under the supervision of Ben Askar and fitness coach.
He said, “Everyone is committed to the measures taken by the Qatar Stars League for the health and safety of players.”
He expressed hope that the players would be able to resume their ground training soon as home-based exercises alone would not be enough.
Ali Amin expressed his satisfaction over Umm Salal’s recent results in the 2019-20 season QNB Stars League before the stoppage.
“Despite the difficult circumstances that Umm Salal had during the beginning of the season, we are satisfied with the foreign players and professionals. We’re also happy with the appointment of coach Ben Askar, whom we consider as one of our biggest gains this season as he has proved his mettle as a coach.
QNB Stars League team Al Sailiya’s Football Director Walid al-Mannai said their players were staying fully committed towards the implementation of distance training programme developed for them by technical staff and fitness coaches in co-ordination with the Qatar Stars League (QSL).
Al-Mannai said, “There’s precise follow-up to the performance of each player separately and there are devices that have been distributed to the players to follow them remotely according to the instructions of QSL, and that training was done regularly and according to a specific schedule.”
He pointed out that Al Sailiya were suffering from the absence of Iranian professional player Karim Ansari to an injury and that he was now on the path of recovery.
