Mall of Qatar has exempted mall tenants from rental costs for an additional month, June, following the earlier exemption announced for three months - from March until May.

This comes as part of its "continuous support to tenants" in the light of Covid-19, Mall of Qatar has said in a statement.

The current decision "embraces all stores except operating stores, a step that reflects the mall’s strategy to support tenants overcome the challenges posed by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak", it noted.

Emile Sarkis, general manager of Mall of Qatar, said: “The decision comes in line with our social responsibility commitment to our partners, community and the government effort. We have a strong relationship with our tenants, and taking into consideration the current closure of the stores in our mall based on the Qatar authorities decision to close the stores as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential spread of coronavirus, we are keen to provide the extra support to our partners and exempt the closed stores from rental costs for an additional month.

“We are all partners during this pandemic, and are confident that our united effort and patience will lead us all to a better tomorrow. We look forward to the moment when we overcome these challenges and bring business back to normal."

Besides exempting tenants from rental costs, the mall also supported them by launching a campaign through social media and different communication channels - 'Stay safe, shop from home'. This was aimed at supporting the tenants' home delivery services to increase their sales during this difficult time, the statement added.

The exemption applies to non-operating stores with no previous liabilities to Mall of Qatar.
