Vodafone Qatar has partnered with Digital Virgo to develop an exclusive new digital content environment called 'Shater'.

Accessible both over the web and as an iOS or Android app, "this safe and fun digital space for children - www.shater.qa - is the first of its kind in Qatar", the company has said in a statement.

Providing a tailored mix of popular local and global digital content, filtered by age, 'Shater' comes with full parental controls. A usage dashboard lets parents monitor the time spent by their children on all the activities. The range of content is based on the preferences of children in Qatar and includes learning activities, 200 games and videos.

Customers who purchase the ‘Explorer Plan’, Vodafone’s postpaid plan for children below 18 years, will get a free subscription to 'Shater' content. As a promotional offer, every Vodafone postpaid customer can enjoy access to the 'Shater' app free of charge for the first month.

Prepaid customers can also enjoy access to the 'Shater' app free of charge for seven days. After the promotional period, customers will be charged QR40 per month to access the entire catalogue of videos, games and activities. In addition, customers can download all content and watch it at their own leisure.

The new app comes after the recent launch of Gamester, a Vodafone Qatar gaming platform developed by Digital Virgo, leveraging Digital Virgo’s digital marketing expertise and direct carrier billing technology, Vodafone Qatar’s 1.7mn users now have access to quality gaming content from mobile entertainment partners and the ability to pay for this content securely with their monthly phone bills, the statement notes.

Diego Camberos, chief operating officer at Vodafone Qatar, said: “We are delighted to offer this safe new digital space, 'Shater'. In working with a partner like Digital Virgo, we kept in mind the safety concerns of parents about unsupervised access to digital media but also what youngsters enjoy. With 'Shater', they get a full range of age-appropriate content to keep their curious young minds happily and safely occupied this summer.”

Pascal Dufour, vice-president for Mena & Turkey, Digital Virgo, added: “'Shater' is a unique and engaging environment for children with no compromises on safety, giving parents complete control over the content. We are pleased to see our partnership with Vodafone Qatar go from strength to strength, in line with our commitment to expand our footprint across the Middle East.”

Vodafone Qatar has made online safety a priority with the launch of AmanTECH, its digital safety programme.
