In yet another haul of banned drugs, the Air Cargo Customs officials seized banned Captagon pills that were being smuggled to Qatar.
This was informed by the General Authority of Customs (GAC) through its social media accounts. The cache of 34,990 pills were found concealed inside a consignment of small tables.
In July, GAC foiled attempts to smuggle illicit drugs into Qatar. Four packs of crystal meth (Methamphetamine) weighing 734gm were seized at Cargo customs at Hamad International Airport (HIA).
The Sea Customs Department, on September 8, foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge amount of narcotic substances into the country. The Customs officials seized 26.15kg hashish at Ruwais Port where it was found to be hidden inside metal cans in a refrigerated truck that carried fruits. A total of 26 packs of the banned narcotic substance was recovered by the officials.
In another incident reported on September 6, the Sea Customs Department seized 45.5kg hashish at Ruwais Port where it was found hidden inside the spare tyre of a refrigerated truck. The banned narcotic substance was concealed in 45 plastic bags.
In another major drug haul, also reported in September first week, the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement seized 40kg of banned narcotic substances and arrested three persons from the Asian community. The drugs included 29kg hashish and 10.2 kg methamphetamine.
The banned drug substances were seized and the gang busted after a search was carried out. The Directorate received information about some persons involved in drug trafficking and a search and investigation team was formed immediately.
In August, the GAC officials seized a massive quantity of 'tambaku' (a kind of chewing tobacco) at the Hamad Port. The 'tambaku' weighed 2,152 kg. The banned tobacco was found to be stuffed in 1,435 bags hidden inside a sugar shipment.
