Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) provided various humanitarian assistance to support the efforts of the Ethiopian Red Cross in combating the Covid-19 in the country. The humanitarian assistance will benefit 65,210 people in the Oromia and Gambella provinces, with a total budget of $113,670.
In partnership with the Ethiopian Red Cross, QRCS provides technical and financial support in addition to supervising field work, through the National Society branches in Oromia and Gambella provinces.
These assistance included personal protective equipment (PPE), hygiene and sterilization supplies, and non-medical materials, which would contribute to limiting the spread of the virus among vulnerable communities.
QRCS also organized training courses for volunteers, in order to prepare them to carry out community awareness campaigns, while providing them with personal protection equipment to maintain their safety and the safety of those targeted by members of the Ethiopian community. A number of health professionals have been trained in the skills of managing health isolation centers for people with Covid-19 disease, in addition to providing the necessary hygiene and sterilization supplies.
Ethiopia has witnessed many successive crises since the beginning of this year, such as locust infestation, floods, communicable diseases like cholera, and COVID-19 disease, which exacerbate the suffering of vulnerable families in the region.
This project comes within the initiative launched by the QRCS to emergency response to the coronavirus pandemic in 22 countries spread over 6 continents around the world, by supporting the efforts of National Societies working in response efforts, with a total budget of QR 2,236,827 for the benefit of more than 320,000 people in Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Laos, Vanuatu, Ethiopia, Chad, Senegal, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Mali, Sierra Leone, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Venezuela, El Salvador, Peru, and Panama.
