The second edition of the Qatari Song Night will begin on Tuesday, organised by the Music Affairs Center at the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

The two-day event will take place at Al Mayassa Theatre, Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), with the participation of distinguished Qatari and Arab artistes. Some renowned Qatari musicians will also be honoured on the occasion.

The event aims to promote Qatari songs and support the artistes involved in the industry to enhance the overall field of arts in the country. It will give Qatari songwriters, musicians and singers an interactive platform to exercise their creativity and further refine their craft.

All Covid-19 precautionary and preventive measures will be followed during the event.

Four Qatari artistes will be honoured during the event for their contributions to the Qatari musical scene over the years with their distinguished works. They are Hamed al-Namaa, considered the first music academic; Mohamed Rashed, known for his beautiful voice and who has also worked in senior positions at Qatar Radio; Dr Marzouq Bashir, an academician and poet who has helped formulate the modern Qatari song; and Saqr Salih, a pioneer in the field of Qatari songs.

Rehearsals held in the run-up to the programme, led by Kuwaiti maestro Dr Ahmed Hamdan and involving a number of artistes, promised an experience to remember over the two days.

Dr Hamdan thanked the Ministry of Culture and Sports and everyone involved in organising the event. He stressed that he feels proud and happy to be a part of the event as it hosts some of the most distinguished Qatari and Arab artistes, who will present new works blending the modern with the old in terms of both music and lyrics.

Dr Hamdan noted that the event will have a positive impact on the musicians, who have been away from the scene for a while due to the pandemic and are eager to return to performing.

Similarly, a number of participating musicians and singers have expressed happiness to be part of the event, expecting it to make a valuable addition to the cultural scene in Qatar and the Arab world.

The first edition of the Qatari Song Night was held last year and enjoyed immense success with the participation of 10 singers.
