An awareness seminar by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Tuesday has underscored the need to follow the rules and regulations to ensure public safety and security.

The virtual seminar was organised by the Capital Security Department in co-operation with the Public Relations Department of the MoI on ‘Crime Prevention and Joint Responsibility in Maintaining Security and Safety and Enhancing Security Sense’.

Assistant director of the department Lt Col Saqr Khamis al-Kubaisi, during the seminar, highlighted the efforts being taken by the ministry to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by implementing a host of measures including social distancing, wearing masks, installing Ehteraz and restricting the number of travellers in vehicles.

He said that the public is obliged to strictly adhere to the measures put in place by the authorities in order to prevent the spread of virus adding that the violators will face action including imprisonment and penalties.

While referring to the incidents where workers resort into strikes due to lack of payment, al-Kubaisi said this is prohibited by the law. He further asked them to approach the authorities and seek legal action. He also warned against trusting rumours instead of taking news from their authentic sources.

“Some of the individuals are holding business activities without a licence. This will draw action including confiscation of goods and penalties,” he said.

The official urged expatriates to adhere to the laws and become aware of the customs and traditions of the country where they live. He further explained various laws regarding theft and check fraud and asked the residents to abstain from street vending.
