* Strong winds expected from tonight until Friday

The country is expected to see strong winds from tonight and a noticeable drop in temperature during the weekend, the Qatar Met department has said.

"Weather charts indicate that the country will be affected by fresh to strong northwesterly winds from Wednesday night to Friday (January 20-22), with wind speeds ranging from 15-25 knots and gusting to 35 knots at times in some areas," the weather office said in a report on social media on Tuesday.

This, in turn, will lead to blowing dust and low visibility (less than 2km) in some areas with dusty weather sometimes, especially on Thursday, the report states.

The expected wave height will range from 7-11ft, rising to 14ft in some areas where the wind gusts will exceed 40 knots in some offshore areas occasionally. The wind speed will gradually decrease from Friday evening inshore, while the marine warning will continues until Saturday (January 23).

There will be a noticeable drop in temperature, with the maximum ranging from 18-24C and the minimum from 8-16C, and dropping below that especially in the southern and external regions. The 'apparent temperature' will be less than that, the report adds.

Apparent temperature is the temperature equivalent perceived by humans, caused by the combined effects of air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed, according to information available online.

The Met department has called on everyone to be careful and avoid all marine activities during the warning period, as well as to follow up on the latest updates through its official accounts.
