HE the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani crowned the winners of events on the 9th day of annual purebred Arabian Camel Festival for the sword of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.
Organised by the Camel Racing Organising Committee within 2020-2021 season at the Al Shahaniya camel race track, the festival continues until January 27, with a wide participation from camel owners in GCC countries.
Yesterday’s crowning ceremony came at the end of 15 rounds of competitions: seven in the morning and the remainder in the evening.
Participants in the 9th day’s competitions were strong.
In the morning events, Al Shahaniya camels claimed five titles, including in the two main rounds in which they won the first three places.
In the first round, Awzan of Al Shahaniya won first place with a time of 12.54.68 minutes, Sahaib won second place with a time of 12.57.42 minutes, and Tala’a came in third place with a time of 13.07.72 minutes.
At the evening events, Hodour of Al Shahaniya claimed the title and a prize of QR500,000 after winning the first place with a time of 12.20.34 minutes, followed by Rashida of Al Shaqab, which came in second place with a prize of QR250,000 after recording a time of 12.20.58 minutes, and Kaltham of Al Shaqab in the third place to win QR150,000 after recording a time of 12.21.14 minutes.
Salma of Al Shaqab won the title of the second main round and its award is the golden shalfa and QR400,000 after finishing first place with a time of 12.20.38 minutes, while Al-Kaida of Al Shahaniya camels came in second place, winning the prize of QR200,000 after recording a time of 12.21.46 minutes.
Umtiya of Al Shaqab won the third place, with a prize of QR100,000, after recording a time of 12.26.92 minutes. – QNA
