Qatar's real estate sector development was seen more concentrated outside the capital Doha as Al Rayyan, Al Daayen and Al Wakra together constituted 67% of the total building permits issued this February, according to the official statistics.
In its latest data, the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) also reported that Al Rayyan, Al Wakra and Al Daayen municipalities constituted 72% of the total building completion certificates issued in the review period.
The PSA figures suggest the total number of new building permits issued were 1,294, of which Al Rayyan constituted 36% or 471 permits, Al Daayen (16% or 204 permits), Al Wakra (15% or 200 permits), Doha (15% or 198 permits), Umm Slal (8% or 107 permits), Al Khor (4% or 51 permits), Al Shahaniya (3% or 33 permits) and finally Al Shamal (2% or 30 permits).
On a monthly basis, at the national level, the number of building permits issued declined 6% with Al Shahaniya registering 41% plunge, Al Wakra (34%), Doha (29%), Umm Slal (28%), Al Daayen and Al Khor (23% each), and Al Shamal (17%); while those of Al Rayyan more than doubled in February 2021.
The building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
The PSA data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constituted 51% (662 permits) of the total building permits issued in February 2021, additions 46% (599 permits) and fencing 3% (33 permits).
Of the new residential building permits, villas topped the list, accounting for 68% (389 permits) of the total, dwellings of housing loans 20% (115 permits) and apartments 7% (42 permits).
Among non-residential sector, commercial structures accounted for 46% or 42 permits, the industrial buildings as workshops and factories 36% (33 permits) and government buildings 11% (10 permits).

The PSA figures suggest that of the total number of new building permits issued in February this year, Al Rayyan constituted 29% or 97 certificates, Al Wakra (23% or 78 permits), Al Daayen (20% or 68 permits), Doha (13% or 43 permits), Umm Slal (7% or 23 permits), Al Khor (4% or 12 permits), Al Shahaniya (3% or 11 permits) and Al Shamal (2% or six permits).
The overall building completion certificates issued saw a 4% fall month-on-month in February 2021 with Umm Slal recording 32% shrinkage, Doha (27%), Al Khor (14%), Al Shahaniya and Al Wakra (8% each) and Al Rayyan (2%); whereas Al Daayen and Al Shamal saw 51% and 50% increase respectively in the review period.
Of the 198 residential buildings completion certificates issued, as many as 122 or 62% were for villas, 63 or 32% for dwellings of housing loans and 11 or 6% for the apartments.
In terms of geography, Al Rayyan received 97 certificates or 29% of the total in February 2021, Al Wakra (78 certificates or 23%), Doha (43 certificates or 13%), Umm Slal (23 certificates or 7%), Al Khor (12 certificates or 4%), Al Shahaniya (11 certificates or 3%) and Al Shamal (six certificates or 2%).
Of the 122 villas completion certificates issued this February, as many as 35 were in Al Daayen, 32 in Al Wakra, 24 in Al Rayyan, 15 in Umm Slal, nine in Doha, five in Al Shamal and two in Al Khor.
Of the 63 dwellings of housing loans completion certificates issued, Al Rayyan saw 37, Al Wakra and Al Daayen (12 each), and Umm Slal and Al Khor (one each).
In the case of 11 apartments, Doha received six completion certificates issued, Al Wakra and Al Rayyan (two each) and Al Daayen (one).
