Ideal Indian School (IIS) conducted a three-day online refresher programme for the teaching faculty recently.
On the first day, a webinar on the new National Education Policy introduced by Government of India was conducted.
Dr Atul Nischal, founder-director of International Council for School Leadership, executive vice president of S. Chand group and editor in-chief of the Progressive Teacher, was the keynote speaker. He said that the New Education Policy 2020 will bring in numerous changes in India's education strategy. “The National Educational Policy focuses on reflecting the culture and diversity of the country. It emphasises on critical thinking and analytical skills of the students. It is aimed to mould every individual into a good human being and emphasises more on the development of the problem solving skills,” he added. Dr Atul Nischal, concluded his speech by answering various questions put by the audience.
Principal Syed Shoukath Ali had a special session on the topic ‘Innovations in Teaching and Learning’. With the present scenario in mind, the principal asked the teachers to use technology to the fullest and make their classes more vibrant and interesting by leaving behind the traditional methods of teaching and impart education in an efficient manner.
The programme commenced with a prayer by Dr Ethisham, followed by a brief introduction of the speaker given by Thanu Thapa, who compered the whole session. The principal welcomed the speaker and Lipsy Sabu proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of teachers from other Indian schools also attended the session.
Sajith K, head of Computer Science department, presented the topic ‘Online Tools for Teaching and Learning’. He shared his ideas on the implementation of Google Classrooms and guided the faculty on the ‘G-Suite’ app and other important helpful applications from Google. Moving on with the same topic, Santosh added further points about ‘Augmented Reality’. He stated that with augmented reality, teaching and learning would be more interesting and fun-to-learn in the classroom. Karthik, Charles and Sadaf from the department of Physical Education, Music and Art respectively, had a presentation on ‘Art Integrated Learning’. Khatija T C, assistant headmistress, Girls’ Section, co-ordinated the teachers’ refresher programme.
The third day witnessed a departmental meeting and demo classes by the teachers from various sections. The entire session was very interactive and informative.
