Health control departments in municipalities across the country have affirmed their readiness to inspect food establishments during the holy month of Ramadan.
The municipalities have prepared a comprehensive action plan to intensify campaigns and inspection tours, and ensure that health requirements are met by all food establishments and their workers.
They have also stressed their commitment to applying precautionary and preventive measures in light of the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The work plan includes inspection dates and mechanisms. Campaigns at food establishments have been intensified since April 1, and these include the daily inspection of restaurants, cafeterias, butcheries, commercial complexes, societies and centres, to ensure the safety of products offered for sale and special offers for some food commodities, storage methods, as well as the inspection of shops selling meat, fish and poultry, consumer complexes and pastry shops.
The work will be carried out in two shifts during Ramadan (morning and evening), while the work of veterinary inspectors at slaughterhouses will be done from 5am to 4pm.
Food inspectors and veterinarians will direct all types of food establishments to apply the necessary health requirements while handling food, and observe all precautionary measures related to Covid-19.
All abattoirs, including the new Al Sheehaniya slaughterhouse, will begin their activities with the launch of the subsidised sheep initiative in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan, and the working hours are from 5am to 4pm daily.
Veterinarians will be available at all civil and commercial slaughterhouses and central fish markets to ensure the due examination of all slaughtered sheep and fish in these facilities.
A plan has also been prepared for inspecting food establishments and the distribution of specialised staff of inspectors and veterinarians to carry out them at different times during the day, taking into account the nature of the commercial activity of each facility and the period of business.
