The Covid-19 precautionary measures currently in place are to continue through the rest of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in order to further reduce the number of new infections, Hamad General Hospital's medical director Dr Yousef al-Maslamani said.
"The continuing drop in number of Covid-19 cases is due to the restrictions and speedy implementation of the vaccination programme," he explained in a series of short videos tweeted by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) Friday while thanking the public for their commitment.
"It is highly encouraging that the Covid-19 vaccines are highly effective," Dr al-Maslamani stated. The data published last week by the MoPH shows that out of 1,800 patients admitted to the ICU only 18 or 1% were vaccinated, which proves the effectiveness of the vaccine and its role in returning life to normal until 80%-90 % of the population in Qatar is vaccinated.
The official pointed out that more than 1.5mn doses of the Covid-19 vaccines have been given in Qatar so far. As many as 1mn persons have received at least one dose, more than half a million got both the doses, and 16,000 doses are administered a week.
