Qatar has witnessed a strong 28.4% year-on-year growth in the total number of building permits issued this May, mainly paced by a strong double-digit growth in permits issued in Al Rayyan, Doha, Al Wakra and Al Daayen municipalities, amidst additional Covid-19 related restrictions, according to the official data.
Qatar issued a total of 348 building permits in May 2021 with Al Rayyan, Doha and Al Wakra municipalities together constituting as much as 71% of the total; said the figures released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).
In its latest data, the PSA reported that of the total number of new building permits issued, Al Rayyan constituted 31% or 109 permits, Doha (21% or 72 permits), Al Wakra (19% or 65 permits), Al Daayen (16% or 54 permits), Umm Slal (5% or 18 permits), Al Khor (4% or 15 permits), Al Shahaniya (3% or 12 permits) and Al Shamal (1% or three permits).
The Al Rayyan municipality registered a stupendous 91.2% yearly growth in the building permits issued in May 2021, followed by Doha 33.3%, Al Wakra 27.5%, Al Daayen 25.6% and Al Khor 7.1%; whereas Umm Slal witnessed 43.8% decline, Al Shamal 40% and Al Shahaniya 20%.
On a monthly basis, at the national level, the number of building permits issued however plummeted 30% with Al Shamal witnessing 70% decline, Al Khor 44%, Umm Slal 40%, Al Rayyan 33%, Doha 31%, Al Daayen 26%, Al Wakra 18% and Al Shahaniya 14%.
The building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
The PSA data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constituted 44% (155 permits) of the total building permits issued in May 2021, additions 53% (183 permits) and fencing 3% (10 permits).
Of the new residential buildings permits, villas topped the list, accounting for 62% (76 permits) of the total, dwellings of housing loans 19% (23 permits) and apartments 18% (22 permits).
Among non-residential sector, commercial structures accounted for 50% or 16 permits, the industrial buildings as workshops and factories 22% (seven permits) and government buildings 16% (five permits).
Qatar registered a 36.7% year-on-year jump in the total building completion certificates issued this May.
Qatar saw a total of 216 building completion certificates issued in May 2021, of which 154 or 71% was for the new buildings (residential and non-residential) and 62 or 29% for additions.
The PSA figures suggest that of the total number of new building completion certificates issued in May 2021, Al Rayyan constituted 31% or 66 certificates, Al Wakra (25% or 54), Doha (14% or 30), Al Daayen (13% or 29), Umm Slal (9% or 19), Al Shahaniya (4% or nine), Al Khor (2% or five) and Al Shamal (2% or four).
The overall building completion certificates issued witnessed a 36.7% rise year-on-year in May 2021 with Al Shamal reporting 300% growth, Umm Slal 111.1%, Al Wakra 58.8%, Al Daayen 45%, Al Shahaniya 28.6%, Al Khor 25%, Doha 20% and Al Rayyan 13.8%.
On a monthly basis, the total number of building completion certificates issued in the country declined 35% with Al Khor registering 69% decline, Doha 51%, Al Daayen 46%, Al Shamal 43%, Al Rayyan 29%, Wakra (25%) and Umm Slal 17%); while there was a 13% increase in the case of Al Shahaniya in the review period.
Of the 124 residential buildings completion certificates issued, as many as 67 or 54% were for villas, 46 or 37% for dwellings of housing loans and eight or 6% for the apartments.
In terms of geography, Al Rayyan issued 66 certificates or 31% of the total, Al Wakra (54 or 25%), Doha (30 or 14%), Al Daayen (29 or 13%), Umm Slal (19 or 9%), Al Shahaniya (nine or 4%), Al Khor (five or 2%), and Al Shamal (four or 2%).
Of the 67 villas completion certificates issued this May, as many as 21 were in Al Rayyan, 20 in Wakra, 13 in Al Daayen, eight in Umm Slal, two each in Doha and Al Shahaniya and one in Al Shamal.
Of the 46 dwellings of housing loans completion certificates issued, Al Rayyan saw 25, Al Wakra (eight), Umm Slal (six), Al Daayen (four), Doha, Al Khor and Al Shamal (one each).
In the case of eight apartments, Doha issued five completion certificates, Wakra two and Al Rayyan one.
