Ukraine's Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa Ambassador Maxim Sobh has praised Qatar's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of his country and its humanitarian aid to ease the impact of the current war in Ukraine.
In an interview with the Qatari newspaper Arrayah, published Wednesday, he praised Qatar's stance that calls for an end to the war and supports peaceful solutions through dialogue and mediation.
The co-ordination of political efforts between Doha, Kyiv, and international partners actively continues, he said, adding that his country is ready for peace with Russia under the condition of the withdrawal of all its forces from the Ukrainian territories; the land in exchange for peace, a well-known principle in the Arab Peace Initiative.
He stressed that Qatar was, and still is, one of the most important trading partners of Ukraine in the Gulf region and that his country is keen to develop relations with all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to the level of strategic partnership, pointing out that there are important opportunities for cooperation and investment in the post-war reconstruction period.
He expressed his gratitude and thanks to Qatar and the Qatari people for providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine and transferring $5mn in aid.
He said that these funds, which came recently from the Qatari Government through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, will be used to buy 10 ambulances and 76 anaesthesia machines for surgical departments in civil hospitals.
On the cooperation and coordination between Doha, Kyiv, and international partners to stop the war, the envoy said, during an online meeting, that the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba invited GCC foreign ministers to support Ukraine, contribute to solving the global energy and food crises caused by the war.
He added that in the future, Ukraine is interested in economic and financial co-operation with the Arab Gulf states, during the post-war reconstruction period, and can offer a wide scope for investment in agriculture, energy, transport, tourism, and information technology. (QNA)
