Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) organised an event with workers in Qatar at Asian Town Cricket Stadium - Recreation Hall, as part of the celebrations of India’s 75th Anniversary of Independence - Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.
ICC joint secretary Sudhir Gupta welcomed the gathering. Indian ambassador Dr Deepak Mittal was the chief guest. Indian embassy first secretary Xavier Dhanaraj also attended.
Dr Mittal in his keynote address, elaborated on how the embassy is committed to the welfare of Indian expats and workers and also mentioned about the appreciation by Qatar for the valuable contributions of the Indian community.
A lot of workers from various companies in Qatar actively took part in the event by singing patriotic songs. Maharastra Mandal,Telangana Gulf Samithi Karnataka, Rajasthan and Punjabi community members also rendered patriotic songs together with a live orchestra and singers.
ICC vice president Subramanya Hebbagelu presided. ICC's former president and celebration committee chairman A P Manikantan, Grand Mall managing director Ashraf Cherakal, ICC advisory committee chairman K S Prasad, ICC treasurer Arshad were present. Mohan Durai Swamy proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of ICC.
